Out on his own

An approximately six month old Barred Owl out on his own. I followed this brood for most of the early spring until one afternoon I found this one split off from the others and hunting on his own.

A ghost in the pines

I found this owl in a stand of tall pines actively hunting one evening just before sunset. Like a spirt he made no noise as he swooped down repeatedly onto unsuspecting Voles.

A sliver of light

I found this Barred owl one evening in late summer inside of a large pine tree. At first she was in a darker area but after a failed hunting attempt she moved to another branch. Which just so happened to be where a small bit of light from the setting sun was coming through the bows.

In four years of watching this Barred owl I have never seen her catch something this large. She seemed to want to show it off for a few minutes before eating it.
